VicRoads Callbacks and Bargaining Update

08 May 2024

Call Backs
At our recent Consultative Committee meeting, ASU representatives again raised concerns about staff being rostered on to do callbacks, irrespective of whether they wanted to. Performing callbacks has always been voluntary, and VicRoads again conceded this.

If you do not wish to do callbacks, all you need to do is email your Team Leader, and tell them that you are opting out. You do not need to provide a reason, and you should not be questioned for doing so.

Bargaining Update
We have completed three meetings for the new VicRoads Enterprise Agreement. So far, we have been going through our 43 claims, explaining what they mean, and providing draft clauses. This part of the process is always slow going, and we are not yet at the point where we have an understanding of whether Management agrees or disagrees with any of the claims.

Management has provided us with their position. Aside from a few technical changes to comply with legislation, it is set out in broad terms, with few specifics. Concerningly, there is a section entitled “Attracting and retaining high performing employees”, which proposes a “New scheme rewarding high performance.” This usually means performance bonuses for a small number of staff.

The ASU knows that ALL VicRoads staff are high performing – workloads and customer expectations have never been higher, and we want to see ALL staff properly rewarded for the work that they do.

We will update members as we progress, and get a clearer idea of VicRoads’ position on our log items.
