Central Goldfields Shire Council legal application lodged!

02 July 2024

The ASU has today lodged an application for authorisation for a multi-enterprise agreement to cover Ararat Rural City Council and Central Goldfields Shire Council. This application is the first of its kind in Victorian local government.

Following endorsement at ASU members meetings earlier this year to pursue a multi-enterprise agreement at Central Goldfields, ASU officials and delegates have been collecting a majority support petition. This petition is a legal document that shows evidence that a majority of workers at Central Goldfields support a multi-enterprise agreement.

We have met with management several times in the past months and clearly put to them that the majority of workers support this approach – but they’ve refused to listen. Disappointingly, this means we have had to make a contested application to the Fair Work Commission and have been unable to commence bargaining.

The existing Central Goldfields agreement has now expired and the ASU is therefore eligible to seek an authorisation for a multi-enterprise agreement. We expect this matter to be listed in the coming weeks.

What does this mean for bargaining?

The ASU is ready to commence bargaining as soon as we secure an authorisation from the Fair Work Commission.

We have a draft log of claims that has been developed at member meetings and with delegates. Upon authorisation, we will hold members’ meetings to have this formally endorsed.
